Often, however, beginners use it inappropriately, and people proficient in English overuse it, leading to bland, imprecise communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Recently, I was speaking with a student who told me that his knowledge of English grammar used to be &#8220;very nice&#8221;. What he meant to say was that his knowledge used to be &#8220;very good&#8221;.&nbsp; I suggested that next time, to impress someone with his vocabulary, he could say; \u201cMy knowledge of English grammar used to be <em>&#8220;stellar&#8221;<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Here are some alternative words to \u201cnice\u201d to use in academic, business or social situations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>ACADEMIC PRECISION<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Students with a rich, precise vocabulary excel in academic settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>To express:<\/td><td>Instead of:&nbsp;<\/td><td>Try:<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>quality descriptions<\/td><td>\u201cnice details\u201d<\/td><td>\u201c<strong>precise<\/strong> details\u201d<br>\u201c<strong>thorough<\/strong> details\u201d<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>approval<\/td><td>\u201cnice idea\u201d<\/td><td>\u201c<strong>innovative<\/strong> idea\u201d<br>\u201c<strong>thought-provoking<\/strong> idea\u201d<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>positive feedback&nbsp;<\/td><td>*\u201cnice work\u201d<br><em>(\u201cnice\u201d is often a good choice to describe quality work)<\/em><\/td><td>\u201c<strong>commendable<\/strong> work\u201d<br>\u201c<strong>exemplary<\/strong> work\u201d<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:55px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In business, using words that are more accurate lend to your credibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>To express:<\/td><td>Instead of:&nbsp;<\/td><td>Try:<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>good quality work<\/td><td>*\u201cnice job\u201d<br><em>(\u201cnice\u201d is often a good choice to describe quality work)<\/em><\/td><td>\u201c<strong>stellar<\/strong> job\u201d<br>\u201c<strong>impressive<\/strong> job\u201d<br>\u201c<strong>excellent<\/strong>\u201d job\u201d<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>positive outcomes<\/td><td>\u201cnice results\u201d<\/td><td>\u201c<strong>satisfactory<\/strong> results\u201d<br>\u201c<strong>remarkable<\/strong> results\u201d<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>pleasant collaborators<\/td><td>\u201cnice colleagues\u201d<\/td><td>\u201c<strong>supportive<\/strong> colleagues\u201d<br>\u201c<strong>cooperative<\/strong> colleagues\u201d<br>\u201c<strong>sociable<\/strong> colleagues\u201d<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:67px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SOCIAL AND CASUAL SETTINGS<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Using a varied vocabulary can make conversations more nuanced and engaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>To express:<\/td><td>Instead of:&nbsp;<\/td><td>Try:<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>kindness<\/td><td>\u201cnice person\u201d<\/td><td>\u201c<strong>kind\u201d, \u201ckind-hearted\u201d, \u201cfriendly\u201d, \u201camiable\u201d <\/strong>&nbsp;person&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>appreciation of appearance<\/td><td>\u201cnice dress\u201d<\/td><td>&#8220;<strong>stylish<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>classy<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>elegant<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>stunning<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>pretty<\/strong>&#8220;,&nbsp; &#8220;<strong>beautiful<\/strong>&#8220;<strong> <\/strong>dress<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>an enjoyable experience<\/td><td>\u201cnice event\u201d<\/td><td>\u201c&#8221;<strong>memorable<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>delightful<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>lovely<\/strong>&#8220;, &#8220;<strong>epic<\/strong>&#8220;<strong> <\/strong>event<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:31px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Look up synonyms for \u201cnice\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">While &#8220;nice&#8221; is a useful, versatile word, it can also be dull and almost meaningless. There are so many words you can use instead.
